Introduction

Film Tourism Research Group

A scientific and practice-oriented hub at the meeting point of film and tourism.

The Film Tourism Research Group is a professional hub that explores the points of connection between film and tourism with scientific rigour and a practice-oriented perspective. The group was formed through the collaboration of lecturers and researchers from various higher education institutions, as well as recognised professionals from the film and tourism sectors. Its institutional and logistical background is provided by the Faculty of New Media and Creative Industries of Kodolányi János University.

Film tourism is one of today’s most dynamically developing fields, simultaneously linked to film culture, local and national identity, creative industries, and economic and regional development. The goal of the Film Tourism Research Group is to interpret and research this complex phenomenon by combining approaches from multiple disciplines—bringing together perspectives from film theory, tourism, communication, cultural studies, and economic impact analysis.

Our mission is to build and advance the scientific foundations of film tourism, explore new research directions, and continuously expand the domestic and international knowledge base of film tourism. We consider it essential that our research results appear not only in academic contexts, but also contribute in tangible ways to the development of film and tourism practice, as well as to the professional grounding of cultural and regional development initiatives.

The group takes an active role in coordinating research, producing joint publications and professional analyses, shaping the professional programmes of national and international conferences, and coordinating project-based and international research. Our work is grounded in scientific ethics, transparency, and collaboration-based professional thinking.

Our long-term objective is for the Film Tourism Research Group to become a leading national and international workshop in film tourism research, contributing to the scholarly processing of film heritage and to the foundations of innovative and sustainable tourism developments built on film tourism.

Head of the research group: Dr. PhD. Dr. Róbert Richard Kiss, Dean of Kodolányi János University

The Film Tourism Research Group is open to any professional collaboration that creates new value at the intersection of film, culture, and tourism—and strengthens the national and international visibility of film tourism.
